Excellency,
I have the honour to express my sincere gratitude to Your Excellency for the cordial welcome extended to me during my recent visit to the Syrian Arab Republic. I am very grateful that I had the privilege of being received by His Excellency Hafez Al-Assad and Your Excellency in spite of the fact that my visit was arranged at such a short notice.
I deem it a very good fortune for me that I could have a very frank exchange of views with - Your Excellency on international issues of our mutual concern including international terrorism. I sincerely hope that my visit have [SIC; has] helped to further deepen mutual understanding between our two countries.
Upon my return to Tokyo, I made a detailed report to Prime Minister Nakasone of the result of my talks in Syria, and he expressed deep satisfaction with the talks I had with Your Excellency.
I look forward to see ng you once again in mid September on the occasion of the Japan Week to be held in Damascus which, I believe, will further deepen mutual understanding between our two peoples.
