Notice

On the 15th of this month I summoned the North Korean Ambassador and informed him of the contents of the attached Aide Memoire.

The Ambassador said this was the first time illegal trade with narcotics, cigarettes and spirits in the Embassy was brought to his attention, and he expressed his wish for more time to investigate the case. I told him that Danish authorities has come to their conclusion based on firm evidence collected by Danish police. The Government expressed regret that such measures had become necessary.

The Ambassador said the decision by the Danish government would be complied with as a matter of course. He did however emphasize that he at no point had been involved in activities that were illegal under Danish law.

The conversation took place through an interpreter, and the translation was very poor. The Ambassador’s main arguments, stated above, were expressed repeatedly in various forms. The conversation lasted for approximately ½ hour.

I submitted to the Ambassador a copy of the Aide Memoire.
