December 8, 1983	Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 'Notes for the discussion: East-West relations' This report is part of a wide documentation prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the meeting of the Atlantic Council in Brussels in December 1983. A central theme is the installation of the INF in Western Europe and the consequent interruption of the INF treaty negotiations in Geneva by the USSR.
February 15, 1983	Report by Permanent Representative to NATO Tornetta to Minster of Foreign Affairs Colombo, 'Perspectives about Atlantic defense for the 1980s' Italy's pemanent representative to NATO, Vincenzo Tornetta, reports to foreign minister Colombo about the prospects of NATO's 1980s defence strategy. He offers an overview of the developments of the Alliance, and discusses topical questions including euromissiles and anti-war movements in Europe, and calls for increased openness and willingness to negotiate with the East.
October 15, 1980	Report by Permanent Representative to NATO Vincenzo Tornetta to Minister of Foreign Affairs Colombo: Atlantic Council - Consultations about security in view of the CSCE meeting to be held in Madrid" Report from the Italian permanent representative to NATO, Tornetta, from the CSCE meeting in Madrid discusses the French proposal for a Conference on Disarmament (CDE) in Europe, and the negative impact of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan on the international climate, even giving rise to disagreement among NATO members.
October 11, 1980	Report by Permanent Representative to NATO Vincenzo Tornetta to Ministry of Foreign Affairs Colombo, 'US strategic doctrine's update and consequences for the defense of Europe' Report from the Italian permanent representative to NATO Tornetta to Foreign Minister Colombo regarding the new directive of President Carter (PD-59) on the use of strategic nuclear systems. According to Tornetta PD-59 represents a significant change in the balance between the superpowers and the allied defense posture in Europe.

December 18, 1978	Memorandum by Ministry for Foreign Affairs, 'The 1978 Ministerial Atlantic Council' Notes from the NATO Ministerial meeting. Topics discussed included the need to "relaunch" détente, Soviet policy in Africa, US optimism about SALT, political tensions in Romania, China and the Baltics, and European concerns over Soviet medium range missiles.
December 14, 1978	Memorandum by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 'The autumn sessions of NATO Ministers of Defense meetings (Eurogroup: 4th December; DPC 5th-6th December 1978)' The 1978 fall sessions of the Eurogroup and the Defense Planning Committee discussed the Alliance's reaction to new nuclear capabilities of the Soviet Union and conventional build up of the Warsaw Pact. Even though the NATO states acknowledge that the Soviet Union will not be able to maintain its current efforts due to its economic problems, 1980s are seen as posing risks to the current peace.
May 20, 1978	Telegram by Permanent Representative to NATO Catalano to Minister of Foreign Affairs, 'DPC Ministerial session - Long-term defense program' Telegram from Italy's permanent representative to NATO, Felice Catalano, to Foreign Minister Arnaldo Forlani. Forlani analyses the Defense Planning Committee's proposal for NATO's long-term defence program that will be brought before heads of state at the Washington Summit in the end of May.
May 30, 1978	Memorandum by Minister of Defense Attilio Ruffini for the Prime Minister Andreotti, 'Washington Summit - NATO's program for long-term defense (LTDP)' Minister of Defense Attilio Ruffini's notes to Prime Minister Andreotti regarding NATO's proposal for a long-term defense program. Italy faces pressure to increase its economic contribution, but for the time being cannot make a binding commitment.
