Exchange of notes, Defense Minister Scholten (also to other NATO Defense ministers) – British Defense Secretary for Defense

Defense Minister Scholten writes to other NATO Defense Ministers to clarify the position of the Netherlands on TNF modernization. He focuses on issues related to the size of the modernization program, which in its current state he fears is too large, and also the possibility of separating the issues of making a decision on modernization and then implementing it. The British Defense Secretary then writes to refute each of his concerns on the wider issue of TNF modernization. An addendum focuses more specifically on the issues relating to the Netherlands.

'US Demarche on Pakistani Reprocessing Plant,' US Embassy Paris cable 36143 to State Department

Comments by French advisor Jacomet on the State Department's demarche on Pakistani nuclear development. Jacomet stated that the French government was planning a similar demarche. He was most concerned about the response of Italy and West Germany.

U.S. demarche and "non-paper" on Pakistan's attempts to complete the plutonium reprocessing plant and develop nuclear weapons. Sent to 12 countries to ensure that they "exercise vigilance and appropriate control to deter Pakistan from acquiring sensitive facilities."

Italian response to U.S. demarche on Pakistani nuclear development. Reports that Pakistan has not yet requested any equipment from Italy, but if they did Italy would follow all mandated safeguards.

International Olympic Committee Meeting with the DPRK delegation regarding the Details of holding the 1988 Olympic Games in Pyongyang

Notes on a meeting between IOC President Samaranch (with IOC VP Siperco) and members of the North Korean Olympic Committee. Topics discussed included sports events to be held in Pyongyang, the name to be given to the 1988 Summer Games, the organization of games in Pyongyang, and a joint North-South Korea team.
